A Book Report On Tom Sawyer

The Title of the book is Tom Sawyer. The author is Mark Twain. The genre of the book is Fantasy. The main characters are Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn. The setting is in a village.

The story is about a boy named Tom. Tom is an orphan. He lives with his Aunt Polly and half -brother Sid. Tom likes to play hooky. Aunt Polly sewed Tom?s shirt collar on his jacket so Tom couldn?t go swimming. Tom did go swimming and he sewed the shirt collar back on. He accidentally sewed the shirt collar with black thread instead of white thread. Aunt Polly noticed that.

On Monday Tom pretended he was sick so he didn?t have to go to school. Aunt Polly knew Tom was not sick so she made Tom go to school. While walking to school Tom talked to the pariah of the town Huckleberry Finn. Huck told Tom how to cure warts. When Tom got to school the teacher asked him why was he late. Tom told her that he had stopped to talk with Huckleberry Finn. He did that so he could sit with Becky Thatcher. He asked her to meet him after school.

After school Tom and Becky wanted to be alone. They wanted to be alone so they could get "engaged? in marriage. They got engaged. Becky found out that Tom had already been engaged with Amy Lawrence. She ran home crying.

At half past nine at night Tom and Huck went to the Cemetery to get rid of Huck?s warts. Dr.Robinson, Muff Potter and Injun Joe were there. They were robbing a dead body. Injun Joe attacked Dr.Robinson and killed him. He framed Muff Potter for killing him.

Tom and Huck ran back to the village. The boys swore to keep mum. They were afraid that if they told anybody, Injun Joe would kill them. They saw a stray dog. A stray dog was a bad sign. Muff Potter was in a house. The stray dog looked at him and had its nose pointing at heaven. That means Muff Potter was about to die.

Tom and Huck wanted to dig for treasure. If they found treasure Huck would get the 100 bucks and Tom would get all the diamonds. Huck wanted to use his share to have cake, soda and a circus everyday. Tom wanted to use his share to buy a new drum, a sword, a dog and get married. The boys decided to dig for treasure near Cardiff hill.

They found nothing. Then they decided to dig in the haunted house. They wanted to do it in the daytime. They wanted to do that because they were afraid ghosts would be in the haunted house at night.

The next day they went to the haunted house. When they entered the house they saw a room with no floor, an old fireplace, empty windows, and a staircase. Injun Joe and some other guy came. They went to sleep. Tom wanted to run away but Huck was afraid that they might wake up. They woke up. Injun Joe and the other guy had Six hundred and fifty dollars in Silver. Injun Joe and the other guy found gold coins. Now they had thousands of dollars in coins. They decided to take the coins to Injun Joe?s number two hiding place-under the cross.

The next day Tom thought that their "adventure" was just a dream. He decided that if Huck talks about it was not a dream. Tom found Huck. Huck was in a boat. Huck did talk about their "adventure". Tom thought that the number two hiding place was probably a room two in a tavern. Tom went to the both taverns in the town. In the second tavern Tom found out that the number two room was always locked. Tom thought that the second tavern was the number two hiding place. If the boys found Injun Joe they would follow him and see if he goes to the number two hiding place.

That night Tom and Huck hung around the neighborhood of the tavern. Nobody came. They tried Tuesday and Wednesday night but nobody came. On Thursday night Tom brought his aunt?s lantern. He also brought a towel to cover the lantern. Tom went into the alley. Huck was worried. Tom saw Injun Joe sleeping on the floor and a wine bottle. Tom did not wait to look around because Injun Joe was only drunk a little bit and he could wake up. Tom came running while saying, "run for your life!" He told Huck all about it. Huck was supposed to watch the whole night for anything suspicious and Tom was supposed to watch the whole day.

On Friday morning Tom heard that Mr.Thatcher and his family came back to town. Tom played with Becky. Becky?s mother said that they have a picnic the next day. The next day they were going to a picnic on a ferry. Becky?s mother told Becky to stay with Susy Harper for the night. Tom told Becky that they should stay with Widow Douglas for the night because she has lots of ice cream. They got on the ferry to McDougal?s cave. They got there. They ate lunch. They got ready for the cave. People explore the cave. At night Huck heard Injun Joe and a stranger. Injun Joe wanted revenge on Widow Douglas because her husband had Injun Joe imprisoned and horsewhipped in front of the prison. Injun Joe wanted to cut off Widow Douglas?s ears. Huck told the Welshman who lives next to the widow this. He and his sons got their guns and went out to find Injun Joe.

On Saturday morning Huck came to the Welshman?s house. The Welshman told Huck that his sons and him scared of Injun Joe and his friend. The Welshman had also called the police. Huck told him how he followed Injun Joe. The Welshman said that his sons had found a bundle of burglar tools. Huck was so excited when the Welsh man told him that his sons had found a bundle. He thought the bundle was money. Huck was angry with himself because now the Welshman knew that Huck wanted something that Injun Joe and his friend had. At church Mrs.Thatcher asked Joe Harper, "Where's my daughter?" he didn?t know. Aunt Polly asked Mrs.Thatcher "Where?s Tom? ". She didn?t know. They found out that Tom and Becky didn?t return from the picnic. All the men in the village began to search for Tom and Becky in every corner or corridor in the cave.

Tom and Becky were still exploring the cave with some other children. Tom and Becky got separated from the others. They found a lake. They lost their way because they got separated from the others. They slept. They kept walking. They had to find a spring because they were thirsty. They found one. They ate some cake. Tom used a kite-line to mark the spring. The walked and walked. The corridor they were walking in ended at a precipice. Tom saw Injun Joe.

On Tuesday the people in the village thought that Tom and Becky would never be found. Most of the men gave up looking. Aunt Polly and Mrs.Thatcher were so sad. In the middle of the night the village bells rang .Tom and Becky had been found. Everybody in the village was happy. Tom told them about their adventure. Tom had seen a hole in the cave . Tom saw the Mississippi River. They got out of the cave. Some men in a boat helped Tom and Becky get back to the village. Tom and Becky were in bed all of Wednesday and Thursday. On Friday Tom visited Huck , he told Huck all about his adventure. Tom found out about what happened at Cardiff hill and that Injun Joe?s friend?s body was found in the river. Mr.Thatcher told Tom that the cave had been locked up. Tom?s face turned white as a sheet. He turned white as a sheet because Injun Joe was still in the cave.

After people had heard that Injun Joe was still in the cave, they were on the way to McDougal"s cave. When they entered the cave they saw Injun Joe?s dead body. He had died of starvation. Tom took Huck to a secret place to talk to him. Tom told Huck that the treasure was inside the cave. Tom bet Huck that if the treasure were not in the cave he would give Huck his drum and everything he has. Tom told Huck about a short cut into the cave. Tom "borrowed" a boat from a man who was not at home. Tom told Huck that nobody was polite as robbers. They went inside the cave. They saw a cross. Then they remembered Injun Joe saying that he would take the treasure to his number two hiding place under the cross. They looked under the cross. They found the treasure. They went back to the village. They decided to hide the treasure in the loft of the widow?s house. On the way home Tom and Huck saw the Welshman. He took them to the Widow?s house.

There was a party at the Widow?s house. There was a party at the Widow?s house to honor the Welshman and his sons. The children sat at little side tables in the same room as the adults. The widow said that she give Huck a home in her house, send him to school and when she could get the money she would start him in business in a modest way. Tom told everybody that Huck didn?t need the money because they had found treasure. Tom put all the money on the table. He put all the money on the table so everybody would believe him. They counted the money. There was about twelve thousand dollars.

Huck stayed at the Widow?s house for three weeks then he ran away. He ran away because he didn?t want to be like normal people. Tom found Huck in a empty hogshead. Huck looked dirty when Tom found him. Tom told Huck to go back. Tom told Huck that they would be robbers. He told Huck that only high-class people like Dukes are robbers. So if Huck wanted join Tom?s gang he would have to be high class. Huck said if he was allowed to be in Tom?s gang he would go back to the widow?s.

I think Mark Twain wrote this book because he wanted to show kids not to do bad things like Tom and Huck did. For example, Tom and Huck sneaked out of bed and went to the cemetery. Another example is that Tom and Huck want to be robbers. They think it is proud to be a robber. They have a bad idea of what they want to be.

I recommend this book because it is exciting. One of its good qualities is that it has great descriptions. It also has a mini dictionary at the bottom of every page .So if you don?t understand a word you could just look it up at the bottom of the page. It also has lots of new words. It is so interesting that anybody could enjoy this book
